Tooth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of long lasting, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a gorgeous and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Similar to many dental restorations, veneers may someday need replacement; however, they are still very durable and will last years, offering you a long lasting, lovely smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is positioned over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique normally involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is generally referred to as bonding.
The indirect strategy generally involves 2 visits because the veneers will be produced at a dental lab. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory fabricated veneers are typically made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is usually less unpleasant. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care directions for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and lovely veneers.
