Some Advantages Of Getting A Same Day Crown

Crowns are a typical dental procedure that is often required when someone's tooth is broken or if the tooth has deteriorated to the point where a filling will not work.

Common crowns are fairly inconvenient to get, but there is an alternative. Same-day crowns are a great option because they are easier and result in less pain:

Less Pain

A standard crown can lead to pain for a few reasons, but one of the biggest sources of pain and discomfort is an outcome of having to wear a temporary crown.

A temporary crown is applied as a placeholder to secure your exposed tooth till your permanent crown can be delivered to your dental practitioner. This can take anywhere from a couple of days to a few weeks.

The issue with a temporary crown is that they are not very strong, which means that they can break or come loose really quickly.

A busted or loose short-term crown will expose your tooth to liquids and food, both which can cause quite a bit of pain if they reach the exposed nerves beneath the temporary crown.

Another source of discomfort comes from a loose crown rubbing along your gums. This rubbing can get to the point where it can get fairly unpleasant and start to bleed, which also opens the course for potential infections.

Thankfully, a same-day crown will offer you with a long-term crown at the end of your very first appointment to the dentist.

This eliminates the requirement for a short-term crown, thus allowing you to prevent all the pain and discomfort.

More Convenient

A conventional crown is not a very practical procedure to have performed, mostly since it typically takes a minimum of 2 appointments to complete.

If your temporary crown is broken or falls off, which is common, you will have to make another appointment to have it changed. This can be a huge issue if you have a busy schedule on your hands, or if you have a job that prevents taking some time off in the middle of a busy work day.

However, a same-day crown can be finished in a single day, with a single visit. This is made possible since many dentists will purchase the equipment to make their own crowns, instead of having to buy crowns from a dental lab.

This lets you avoid the trouble of having to potentially invest weeks and numerous appointments to your dentist before the treatment is over and done with.

Talk to your dental practitioner and inquire about the advantages offered by a same-day crown. A same-day crown can provide you with a practical and relatively pain-free option to a conventional crown.

Today's Discussion Has To Do With:

Endodontic Treatment (Root Canal)

Root canal treatment (also described as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is essential when a cavity is allowed, through neglect, to reach all the way to the root pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and find problems early). Sometimes deep restorations or trauma to a tooth might also cause the nerve to be damaged to the point it needs root canal therapy. As soon as this happens, the pulp becomes infected, and can even extend through the root tip and start to eat away at the surrounding bone (this is an abscess).

By the time the pulp is infected it needs to be treated, and can not recover on its own. It can even damage the entire immune system. This is dangerous, and might be extremely agonizing. Symptoms that the pulp has become infected might include sensitivity to hot/cold or sweets, pain, swelling, pain to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth. In some cases, however, no symptoms are apparent and the individual is unaware of any issue until a checkup.

A root canal is then carried out to clear out the infected tooth pulp, and decontaminate the canals of the tooth. The only other treatment would be to extract the tooth. Once the infection is resolved, the canal(s) are filled in to prevent any more infection. Generally a core build-up and crown is recommended for recovering a tooth that has actually had root canal treatment.
