There are various types of dentures, but they share their common function. They replace teeth that have become loose or been lost due to bone loss. When bone loss around the roots of teeth is great enough to let them fall out or loosen them, it's time for dentures. Relax. No one enjoys losing their natural teeth, however you can still eat and talk regularly.
The whole mouth is examined and a decision is made about which teeth will need to be removed, and which will remain. The loose teeth are then extracted. Dentures are fitted to go around or over whatever teeth stay in the mouth, depending upon the type. There is an adjustment period after dentures are positioned in the mouth, and it can take some getting used to. Once accustomed to the dentures, all the normal performance and appearance return and one just carries on as usual. Commonly implants can be used to further stabilize the dentures.
It is important to keep in mind that life with an upper denture, a lower denture, and especially both, is a major lifestyle change when compared to natural teeth. Dentures affect the kind of food you are able to eat, your confidence in social situations, as well as your self-esteem.
A Couple Reasons For Getting A Full Denture:
- All Teeth missing in the same arch
- Restore chewing capability
- Restore a natural looking smile
- Economical alternative to other procedures
An upper full denture will often feel much better than a lower full denture. In order to significantly enhance the fit of a lower complete denture, we often suggest utilizing dental implants as a retentive mechanism. Two dental implants put in the lower jaw can help anchor the denture and substantially improve comfort. In some cases, the implants can even be positioned in the jaw after a denture has been in use for multiple years.
