Tooth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile.
Veneers can entirely reshape your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the perfect solution in treating numerous cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with many dental restorations, veneers may one day need replacement; however, they are still extremely long lasting and will last years, offering you a long lasting, gorgeous smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique usually involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is typically referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique normally involves 2 appointments because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental laboratory. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab fabricated veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the treatment is usually less unpleasant. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care guidelines for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will aid in the life of your brand-new and lovely veneers.
