Porcelain Tooth Veneers
Veneers are a very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a lovely and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal option in treating numerous cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like a lot of dental restorations, veneers may one day require replacement; however, they are still really resilient and will last years, giving you a long lasting, lovely smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is put over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique typically involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is usually referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique normally involves two visits because the veneers will be produced at a dental lab. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a short-term covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab made veneers are generally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the treatment is usually less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care instructions for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will aid in the life of your new and stunning veneers.
