Tooth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Similar to the majority of dental restorations, veneers might at some point need replacement; however, they are still very long lasting and will last many years, giving you a long lasting, lovely smile.
How Are Veneers Set?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is placed over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique usually involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is usually referred to as bonding.
The indirect method normally involves 2 visits because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental lab. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a short-term covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory fabricated veneers are typically made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is usually less unpleasant. Veneers are not advised for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care instructions for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will aid in the life of your new and stunning veneers.
