Because having whiter teeth has now become the top aesthetic concern of many clients, there are multiple ways to lighten teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will lighten teeth considerably. Since tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize numerous approaches: customizeded tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.
The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory produces into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of everyday use. 3 different strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the greater the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray technique is suggested for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take multiple months of use to see considerable color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a extremely quick and convenient whitening procedure. The appointment is roughly one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our clients enjoy this treatment due to the fact that it is so easy and fast!
Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays must be used every couple of months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
