The Conversation Of The Day Is:

Tooth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of most clients, there are multiple ways to bleach teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth lightening system that will lighten teeth significantly. Since tooth whitening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is very important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the recently bleached teeth.

Most dentists use numerous methods: customizeded tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office lightening.

The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory produces into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of everyday use. 3 various strengths of gel might be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the higher the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is recommended for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take numerous months of use to see significant color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a very fast and convenient lightening procedure. The visit is roughly one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our patients love this treatment because it is so simple and fast!

Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up might be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays ought to be used every few months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.

  • Florousis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
