Tooth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a stunning and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like many dental restorations, veneers may one day require replacement; however, they are still very long lasting and will last multiple years, providing you a long lasting, beautiful smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is put over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are normally only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct method normally involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is generally referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique generally involves two visits because the veneers will be made at a dental laboratory. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab fabricated veneers are generally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is typically less unpleasant. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care instructions for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and gorgeous veneers.
