Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of most patients, there are numerous ways to whiten teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will bleach teeth considerably. Because tooth bleaching just works on natural tooth enamel, it is essential to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the recently bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize numerous methods: customizeded tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office lightening.
The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory produces into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of everyday use. Three different strengths of gel may be used, however, the higher the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is advised for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take numerous months of use to see considerable color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a really quick and convenient bleaching process. The appointment is roughly one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients like this treatment because it is so simple and quick!
Tooth bleaching is not permanent. A touch-up might be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays must be used every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
