Porcelain Veneers (Tooth)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a gorgeous and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with a lot of dental restorations, veneers might one day require replacement; however, they are still very durable and will last years, giving you a long lasting, gorgeous smile.
How Are Veneers Set?
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or grinning. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct method normally involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is normally referred to as bonding.
The indirect strategy typically involves 2 appointments because the veneers will be made at a dental laboratory. At the first appointment the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a short-term covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab produced veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is usually less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care directions for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and gorgeous veneers.
