What Are The Advantages Of Same Day Crowns?

There are a number of benefits to having treatment with same day crowns over conventional, laboratory-made restorations.

  • Everything is performed in a single appointment, you only need to visit the dentist one time, take one day from your routine to have the procedure, instead of the typical 2 or three appointments.

  • Only one anesthetic injections, because the whole procedure can be performed within an hour you just need to have one injection.

  • Your dentist remains in complete control of the final result, given that the crown or inlay are designed and made from start to finish by your dentist, they have overall control over how it will fit and look.

  • No temporary restorations, which can typically fall off in between visits if they are not taken care of correctly.

Today We Will Be Talking About:

TMJ (Temporal-Mandibular Joint)

TMJ stands for temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint might be caused by a misalignment of the teeth, trauma, or excess muscle tension. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and five muscles are associated with the area. If something goes wrong a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can trigger:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Trouble in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, in some cases extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can include replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling gaps in between teeth, etc. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. In some cases a plastic mouthpiece is used to prevent clenching or grinding that is adding to the issue. If untreated and taken to extremes, surgery might be needed to repair a terribly damaged joint.
