At our dental practice we do same day crowns. You may be asking, what are same day crowns and what can it do for me?

It is a 3D system that lets us make porcelain crowns and inlays all in one appointment. We have actually now been using this technology for many years and like it more than ever.

Same day crowns are an in-surgery computer system that allows us to change damaged or missing tooth structures with a ceramic product that's as close to a natural tooth as is possible.

This is done while you remain in the practice, in just one visit. All ceramic porcelain inlays and onlays, veneers and crowns that look and feel like natural teeth can be made and placed in a single visit, typically in about an hour.

So what is the procedure?

We scan the opposite teeth and the method the teeth bite together first. We eliminate the old filling, and decay and any thin weak tooth material and scan the readied tooth.

After this we quit working in the mouth and start working with the computer.

Everybody enjoys seeing the pictures of their teeth and the creating of their new tooth. We make 3D design and this info is sent out to the milling device.

Everybody asks if this is like 3D printing and yes it is, but the tooth is not developed layer by layer, it is cut back from a block in the machine, which is much more durable.

The block is then exactly sculpted to produce your new restoration, which is fantastic.

Finally, the customized crown restoration bonded effortlessly into the tooth, reinforcing and sealing it at the same time and after that we clean up!

We have to make sure that you can bite correctly, that its smooth and that you can floss.

Today's Topic Is:

Endodontic Treatment (Root Canal)

Root canal treatment (also referred to as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is required when a cavity is allowed, through neglect, to reach all the way to the root pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and detect problems early). In some cases deep restorations or trauma to a tooth might also cause the nerve to be damaged to the point it requires root canal treatment. As soon as this happens, the pulp becomes infected, and can even extend through the root tip and start to eat away at the surrounding bone (this is an abscess).

By the time the pulp is infected it has to be treated, and can not recover on its own. It can even deteriorate the entire immune system. This is dangerous, and might be extremely uncomfortable. Signs that the pulp has actually ended up being infected might include sensitivity to hot/cold or sugary foods, pain, swelling, discomfort to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth. Often, however, no signs are apparent and the individual is unaware of any problem up until a checkup.

A root canal is then carried out to clean out the infected tooth pulp, and decontaminate the canals of the tooth. The only other treatment would be to remove the tooth. Once the infection is dealt with, the canal(s) are filled in to prevent any more infection. Usually a core build-up and crown is recommended for bring back a tooth that has had root canal therapy.
