What Are Same Day Dental Crowns?

Same day crowns are a brand-new innovation that a dental professional can financially bring back damaged teeth in a single consultation using a top quality ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling device in one instrument. The dentist uses a unique camera to take an precise image of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is downloaded and shown on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD innovation to create the restoration. Then CAM takes over and automatically develops the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the brand-new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The entire procedure takes about one hour.

What Does This Technology Mean For A Patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer need to create temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the traditional 2nd visit has been eliminated. This new technology has more than a decade of medical research and documents to support it. The restorations have been proven precise, safe and effective.

Today's Topic Is About:

Dental Bonding (Composite)

Bonding is a procedure where we apply a tooth-colored composite product to a tooth, shape it, allow it to harden, and polish it. It can be used in specific situations where a tooth has been broken or ended up being stained. These are usually minor repairs, ones that can be resolved through this fairly affordable methods instead of through a more costly dental procedure.

Here's How It Works:
Bonding involves adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to repair damage done to the tooth by decay, to change the alignment of the tooth, close spaces between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes. First the surface area of the tooth is roughened in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface, and a primer/bond agent is applied so the material adheres to the surface area. Then the material itself is put on the tooth and hardened with intense light. The composite resin material is shaped and polished to get a lustrous finish as a last step.
