Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of many clients, there are multiple methods to bleach teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth bleaching system that will whiten teeth significantly. Because tooth whitening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is very important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the newly bleached teeth.
Most dentists use multiple techniques: custom made tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.
The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory fabricates into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole procedure takes about a week of daily use. Three different strengths of gel may be used, however, the greater the strength, the higher the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray technique is advised for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take numerous months of use to see considerable color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a extremely fast and convenient whitening process. The visit is approximately one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our patients enjoy this treatment since it is so easy and fast!
Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up might be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays should be utilized every couple of months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
