Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of long lasting, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and appealing smile.
Veneers can entirely reshape your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the perfect solution in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like many dental restorations, veneers may someday need replacement; however, they are still very durable and will last years, giving you a long lasting, stunning smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is put over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct strategy usually involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is generally referred to as bonding.
The indirect method usually involves two appointments because the veneers will be produced at a dental lab. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory fabricated veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is usually less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care directions for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will aid in the life of your new and gorgeous veneers.
