Teeth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a beautiful and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the perfect solution in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like the majority of dental restorations, veneers might at some point need replacement; however, they are still really durable and will last many years, offering you a long lasting, gorgeous smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is placed over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are typically only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique usually involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is normally referred to as bonding.
The indirect method usually involves 2 appointments because the veneers will be made at a dental lab. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory produced veneers are normally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the treatment is usually less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care instructions for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new and stunning veneers.
