Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a gorgeous and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with most dental restorations, veneers may someday need replacement; however, they are still extremely resilient and will last years, offering you a long lasting, beautiful smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is positioned over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are typically only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or smiling. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct strategy generally involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is typically referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique usually involves two appointments because the veneers will be made at a dental lab. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory made veneers are normally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is typically less unpleasant. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care directions for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your brand-new and gorgeous veneers.
