What Are Single Visit Dental Crowns?

Same day crowns are a brand-new innovation that a dental practitioner can economically bring back broken teeth in a single appointment using a top quality ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling machine in one instrument. The dental practitioner uses a special camera to take an precise picture of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD innovation to develop the restoration. Then CAM takes over and automatically produces the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The entire process takes about one hour.

What Does This Innovation Mean For A Client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dental practitioners no longer need to produce temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the traditional second appointment has been removed. This new technology has over 10 years of medical research and documentation to support it. The restorations have actually been proven accurate, safe and efficient.

The Topic Of The Day Is:

Root Canal

Root canal treatment (also referred to as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is essential when a cavity is allowed, through neglect, to reach all the way to the root pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and discover issues early). In some cases deep restorations or trauma to a tooth might also cause the nerve to be harmed to the point it requires root canal therapy. When this happens, the pulp ends up being infected, and can even extend through the root tip and start to eat away at the surrounding bone (this is an abscess).

By the time the pulp is infected it should be treated, and can not recover by itself. It can even weaken the whole immune system. This is dangerous, and might be really painful. Signs that the pulp has become infected might include sensitivity to hot/cold or sweets, discomfort, swelling, pain to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth. In some cases, however, no signs are apparent and the person is unaware of any issue till a checkup.

A root canal is then performed to clean out the infected tooth pulp, and decontaminate the canals of the tooth. The only other treatment would be to remove the tooth. As soon as the infection is fixed, the canal(s) are filled in to prevent any further infection. Normally a core build-up and crown is suggested for bring back a tooth that has had root canal therapy.
