Today We Will Be Discussing:

Tooth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of the majority of clients, there are numerous methods to lighten teeth. The most popular technique is using a home tooth lightening system that will lighten teeth dramatically. Since tooth bleaching only works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the recently bleached teeth.

Most dentists utilize multiple techniques: custom made tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.

The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory fabricates into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole process takes about a week of day-to-day use. 3 different strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is recommended for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take numerous months of use to see substantial color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a really fast and practical bleaching process. The visit is approximately one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients love this treatment since it is so easy and fast!

Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays need to be used every couple of months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.

  • Florousis (extreme fluoridation throughout tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
