Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of many patients, there are multiple ways to bleach teeth. The most popular method is utilizing a home tooth whitening system that will bleach teeth dramatically. Since tooth bleaching just works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the newly bleached teeth.
Most dentists use a number of approaches: customizeded tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.
The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory fabricates into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of day-to-day use. Three various strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the greater the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray technique is suggested for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take multiple months of use to see considerable color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a extremely quick and practical whitening procedure. The visit is roughly one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our patients like this treatment due to the fact that it is so easy and fast!
Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up might be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays need to be used every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
