Because having whiter teeth has now become the top aesthetic concern of most clients, there are numerous ways to lighten teeth. The most popular technique is utilizing a home tooth whitening system that will lighten teeth significantly. Since tooth lightening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the newly bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize numerous approaches: custom made tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.
The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the lab fabricates into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole process takes about a week of daily use. Three various strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is recommended for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take multiple months of use to see significant color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a really quick and convenient bleaching process. The visit is approximately one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our clients love this treatment due to the fact that it is so easy and quick!
Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays must be used every couple of months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
