Porcelain Teeth Veneers
Veneers are a very thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a beautiful and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating numerous cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with many dental restorations, veneers may one day need replacement; however, they are still really resilient and will last multiple years, giving you a long lasting, lovely smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is put over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are normally only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique normally involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is usually referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique typically involves 2 visits because the veneers will be produced at a dental lab. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are provided a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab produced veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is usually less uncomfortable. Veneers are not advised for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care directions for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and beautiful veneers.
