Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of most clients, there are numerous methods to whiten teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will bleach teeth dramatically. Since tooth bleaching just works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize a number of methods: custom made tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.
The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory produces into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of day-to-day use. 3 various strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the greater the strength, the greater the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is advised for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take a number of months of use to see substantial color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a really fast and hassle-free whitening procedure. The visit is roughly one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our patients enjoy this treatment because it is so simple and quick!
Tooth bleaching is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays should be used every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
