What Are Single Visit Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new innovation that a dentist can financially bring back damaged teeth in a single visit using a premium ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling device in one instrument. The dentist uses a unique camera to take an accurate picture of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is downloaded and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD innovation to create the restoration. Then CAM takes over and automatically produces the restoration while the client waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The whole procedure takes about one hour.

What Does This Innovation Mean For A Client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dental practitioners no longer need to develop temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the traditional second appointment has actually been eliminated. This new technology has more than a decade of scientific research and documents to support it. The restorations have been proven accurate, safe and reliable.

Today Were Reviewing:

Endodontic Treatment (Root Canal)

Root canal treatment (also referred to as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is necessary when a cavity is allowed, through neglect, to reach all the way to the root pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and discover issues early). Sometimes deep restorations or trauma to a tooth might also cause the nerve to be harmed to the point it requires root canal therapy. Once this takes place, the pulp becomes infected, and can even extend through the root tip and begin to eat away at the surrounding bone (this is an abscess).

By the time the pulp is infected it should be treated, and can not recover by itself. It can even deteriorate the whole immune system. This is dangerous, and might be very unpleasant. Signs that the pulp has ended up being infected may include sensitivity to hot/cold or sugary foods, pain, swelling, discomfort to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth. Sometimes, however, no signs are apparent and the person is unaware of any problem till a checkup.

A root canal is then performed to clear out the infected tooth pulp, and decontaminate the canals of the tooth. The only other treatment would be to remove the tooth. As soon as the infection is fixed, the canal(s) are filled in to prevent any additional infection. Generally a core build-up and crown is recommended for recovering a tooth that has had root canal therapy.
