Tooth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a beautiful and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with a lot of dental restorations, veneers may one day require replacement; however, they are still very resilient and will last years, providing you a long lasting, gorgeous smile.
How Are Veneers Set?
Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is placed over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique normally involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is generally referred to as bonding.
The indirect method typically involves 2 visits because the veneers will be made at a dental laboratory. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory produced veneers are typically made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is normally less unpleasant. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and gorgeous veneers.
