Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of long lasting, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the perfect solution in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Similar to most dental restorations, veneers may one day require replacement; however, they are still really long lasting and will last multiple years, providing you a long lasting, stunning smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or grinning. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct strategy generally involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is normally referred to as bonding.
The indirect strategy generally involves two visits because the veneers will be made at a dental laboratory. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab made veneers are normally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is normally less unpleasant. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care directions for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and gorgeous veneers.
