Don't have time for the typical 2 dental appointment crown?

Technology today is altering our daily lives. Lots of people, however, aren't aware that technology also is affecting dentistry in brand-new and interesting ways.

Cutting-edge developments in dental instruments are requiring less time in the dental chair, causing less discomfort and creating gratifying results.

One development instrument, called same day crowns, permits dental practitioners to rapidly restore damaged teeth with natural-colored ceramic fillings, conserving clients time and trouble.

What are Same Day Crowns?

Same day crowns, mean that a dental practitioner can economically fix broken teeth in a single appointment using a top quality ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How does it work?

Same day crowns use CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, including a camera, computer, and milling machine in one instrument.

The dental practitioner utilizes a special camera to take a precise image of the broken tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dentist utilizes CAD technology to design the restoration. The CAM takes over and automatically develops the restoration while the patient waits.

Finally, the dentist bonds the new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The whole process takes about 2 hours.

What does this development mean for a patient?

A tooth-colored restoration indicates no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant.

Dental practitioners don't need to create temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the standard second appointment has actually been eliminated.

Same day crowns have twenty years of medical research study and documentation to promote the innovation. The restorations have actually been proven precise, safe and efficient.

How can I learn if this is an option for me?

Call our office today and we will be happy to address your questions on this new technology.

Today's Topic Will Be About:

TMJ (Temporal Mandibular Joint)

TMJ stands for temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint may be brought on by a misalignment of the teeth, trauma, or excess muscle tension. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and five muscles are associated with the area. If something fails a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can cause:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Trouble in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, sometimes extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can consist of replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling gaps between teeth, and so on. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. Sometimes a plastic mouthpiece is used to prevent clenching or grinding that is adding to the problem. If neglected and required to extremes, surgery may be needed to fix a terribly damaged joint.
