3 Reasons To Choose Same Day Crowns

If you've ever had a crown put over one of your teeth in the past, you understand that the process usually involves at least 2 appointments to the dentist and the placement of a short-term crown before you getting your permanent one.

However, there is a new treatment for getting crowns that can allow you to get a permanent crown the same day. As the name indicates, same day crown devices allow crowns to be created right there next to the dental practitioner's chair.

Take a look at a few reasons same day crowns might be right for you.

More Attractive Teeth

Same day crowns are made entirely of ceramic, removing the need for metal. While metal crowns are perfectly functional and safe, they're frequently thought as less appealing than ceramic.

Ceramic crowns more closely resemble your natural enamel, making them an aesthetically preferable option, particularly for highly-visible front teeth.

Same day crown devices can match the crown exactly to the shade of your natural teeth.

Less Wasted Time And Money

Every hour you spend at the dentist's office is an hour off work or away from another activity or obligation.

Having to go back to the dental practitioner's office multiple times for one procedure might mean getting time off at work authorized for more than one day, hiring a babysitter for more than one day, or filling your vehicle with gas to drive out of your way more than once in a short time-span.

Any way you look at it, multiple dental appointments cost you money, in addition to what you're spending on the dental treatment. Getting everything carried out in one appointment conserves time, and time is money.

Conserves More Natural Teeth

The device used in the same day crown procedure takes a digital scan of your tooth and after that is used to mill the crown on the spot, using the specific specs offered by the digital scan.

This allows the dental practitioner to preserve as much of your natural tooth structure as possible, which is the healthiest alternative for your jaw.

This also permits the dentist to use the machine to create inlays or onlays. These are partial crowns, used when you require more protection than a filling will supply but less than a complete crown.

Thanks to the more accurate digital measurements provided by the same day crown device, teeth that may once have actually needed a full crown might now be prospects for only a partial crown.

If you think that one of your cracked teeth will most likely need a crown, make sure to make a visit with our dentists today.

TMJ (Temporal Mandibular Joint)

TMJ means temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint might be brought on by a misalignment of the teeth, injury, or excess muscle stress. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and 5 muscles are involved in the area. If something goes wrong a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can cause:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Trouble in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, sometimes extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can consist of replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling gaps between teeth, etc. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. Often a plastic mouthpiece is utilized to prevent clenching or grinding that is contributing to the issue. If unattended and required to extremes, surgery may be required to fix a severely damaged joint.
