What Are Same Day Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new technology that a dentist can financially restore damaged teeth in a single consultation using a premium ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling machine in one instrument. The dentist uses a unique camera to take an accurate photo of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is downloaded and shown on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD technology to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and instantly develops the restoration while the client waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The entire process takes about one hour.

Exactly What Does This Technology Mean For A Client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dental practitioners no longer have to create temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the traditional second visit has actually been eliminated. This new innovation has over a decade of clinical research and documents to support it. The restorations have been proven accurate, safe and efficient.

A Gorgeous Smile!

A beautiful smile is one of your greatest possessions - a reflection of happiness and good health.

The Conversation For Today Is:

Temporal Mandibular Joint

TMJ means temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint might be brought on by a misalignment of the teeth, injury, or excess muscle tension. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and 5 muscles are associated with the area. If something fails a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can trigger:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Trouble or soreness in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, in some cases extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can consist of replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling gaps in between teeth, and so on. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. In some cases a plastic mouthpiece is utilized to prevent clenching or grinding that is adding to the problem. If unattended and taken to extremes, surgery may be needed to fix a terribly damaged joint.
