Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile.
Veneers can entirely reshape your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the ideal option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like many dental restorations, veneers may one day require replacement; however, they are still extremely long lasting and will last many years, providing you a long lasting, beautiful smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is positioned over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique usually involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is typically referred to as bonding.
The indirect method normally involves 2 visits because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental lab. At the first appointment the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab made veneers are typically made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is usually less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care instructions for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and gorgeous veneers.
