What Are Same Day Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new technology that a dentist can financially restore broken teeth in a single appointment using a premium ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling device in one instrument. The dentist uses a unique camera to take an precise image of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD technology to develop the restoration. Then CAM takes over and instantly creates the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The entire process takes about one hour.

Exactly What Does This Technology Mean For A Patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dental practitioners no longer have to produce temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the standard 2nd appointment has actually been eliminated. This new innovation has over a decade of scientific research and documents to support it. The restorations have been proven precise, safe and reliable.

The Topic For Today Will Be:

Dental Crowns

A crown (or cap) is a covering that covers the whole tooth surface area restoring it to its initial sizes and shape. A crown protects and strengthens the tooth structure providing the tooth a longer life span than it would have if restored by fillings or other types of restorations.

Crowns are full coverage restorations that are utilized to cover a tooth that is likely to break, or is too broken down to be restored with a filling. They are most commonly done after root canal treatments, or when a huge filling breaks. The larger the hole made by a cavity that needs to be treated, the more likely a crown will be needed. Even after a filling is put in a huge cavity, a tooth is most likely to break. Keep in mind that the jaw muscles are the strongest in the human body. Teeth undergo remarkable pressures. Crowns ride over the weakened tooth, offering strength and securing the tooth against damage. A broken or cracked tooth is a far more severe matter and far more tough to treat. Crowns prevent this, as well as making for a good smile.

It takes 2 appointments to recover a tooth with a crown. In the first appointment any decay is removed from the tooth and it is shaped to accept the crown. Then an impression is made of the tooth for use in producing a crown. Between the two visits the crown is made, typically of high-strength porcelain over gold alloy, all ceramic material, or gold. A temporary crown is worn throughout this time. In the 2nd visit this short-term crown is removed. Then the {permanent crown is adjusted as needed then cemented in place.

What Does Getting A Crown Include?

A crown treatment usually requires two appointments. Your first visit will consist of taking impressions that will be utilized to develop your custom crown. A mold will also be utilized to develop a temporary crown which will stay on your tooth for around two weeks till your new crown is made by a dental lab.

While the tooth is numb, the dental practitioner will prepare the tooth by removing any decay and forming the surface to correctly fit the crown. As soon as these details are accomplished, your temporary crown will be positioned with short-term cement and your bite will be inspected to ensure you are biting properly.

At your 2nd appointment your short-term crown will be removed, the tooth will be cleaned, and your new crown will be thoroughly positioned to guarantee the spacing and bite are precise.

You will be given care directions and encouraged to have routine dental check ups to inspect your crown. As always, appropriate oral hygiene will help extend the life of your brand-new crown.
