What Are Single Visit Dental Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new innovation that a dentist can economically restore damaged teeth in a single visit using a top quality ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling machine in one instrument. The dentist uses a special camera to take an accurate photo of the broken tooth. This optical impression is downloaded and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD technology to develop the restoration. Then CAM takes over and automatically produces the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dental practitioner bonds the new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The entire process takes about one hour.

Exactly What Does This Innovation Mean For A Patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer need to create temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the traditional 2nd appointment has been removed. This brand-new technology has more than a decade of clinical research and documents to support it. The restorations have been proven precise, safe and efficient.

Today We Will Be Reviewing:

Composite Dental Bonding

Bonding is a procedure where we apply a tooth-colored composite material to a tooth, shape it, allow it to harden, and polish it. It can be used in certain circumstances where a tooth has been broken or become stained. These are generally minor repairs, ones that can be resolved through this fairly inexpensive means rather than through a more pricey dental treatment.

Here's How It Works:
Bonding includes adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to repair damage done to the tooth by decay, to alter the positioning of the tooth, close gaps between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes. First the surface of the tooth is roughed up in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface, and a primer/bond agent is applied so the material sticks to the surface area. Then the material itself is put on the tooth and solidified with intense light. The composite resin material is shaped and polished to obtain a glossy finish as a last step.
