Porcelain Veneers (Tooth)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of long lasting, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a lovely and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with the majority of dental restorations, veneers may at some point need replacement; however, they are still extremely durable and will last years, giving you a long lasting, stunning smile.
How Are Veneers Set?
Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is positioned over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are typically only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct method normally involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is typically referred to as bonding.
The indirect method generally involves two appointments because the veneers will be produced at a dental lab. At the first appointment the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are provided a short-term covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab made veneers are typically made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is generally less unpleasant. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care instructions for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new and beautiful veneers.
