Tooth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of long lasting, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a beautiful and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal option in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like most dental restorations, veneers might someday require replacement; however, they are still very durable and will last multiple years, giving you a long lasting, gorgeous smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is positioned over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are normally only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct strategy usually involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is typically referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique typically involves two appointments because the veneers will be made at a dental laboratory. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are provided a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory fabricated veneers are typically made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the treatment is usually less uncomfortable. Veneers are not advised for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care instructions for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and beautiful veneers.
