Tooth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Similar to a lot of dental restorations, veneers may someday need replacement; however, they are still extremely long lasting and will last years, offering you a long lasting, beautiful smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is put over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique generally involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is normally referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique typically involves two visits because the veneers will be produced at a dental lab. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are provided a short-term covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab fabricated veneers are generally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is usually less unpleasant. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care directions for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your new and lovely veneers.
