Dental Bonding (Composite)
Bonding is a procedure where we apply a tooth-colored composite product to a tooth, shape it, allow it to harden, and polish it. It can be used in specific circumstances where a tooth has actually been broken or become stained. These are generally small repairs, ones that can be resolved through this fairly inexpensive methods rather than through a more costly dental procedure.
Here's How It Works:
Bonding involves adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to fix damage done to the tooth by decay, to change the positioning of the tooth, close gaps in between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes. First the surface area of the tooth is roughed up in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface area, and a primer/bond agent is applied so the material sticks to the surface area. Then the material itself is put on the tooth and solidified with intense light. The composite resin material is formed and polished to obtain a lustrous finish as a last step.
