Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of a lot of patients, there are numerous ways to bleach teeth. The most popular method is utilizing a home tooth lightening system that will bleach teeth dramatically. Because tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize a number of methods: customizeded tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.
The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory makes into customized vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of daily use. 3 various strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is recommended for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take multiple months of use to see significant color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a very quick and hassle-free lightening process. The visit is around one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our patients like this treatment due to the fact that it is so simple and quick!
Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up might be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays ought to be used every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation throughout tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
