Teeth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of long lasting, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a stunning and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating numerous cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like most dental restorations, veneers may one day require replacement; however, they are still extremely resilient and will last multiple years, offering you a long lasting, gorgeous smile.
How Are Veneers Set?
Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is put over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique generally involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is generally referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique usually involves two appointments because the veneers will be produced at a dental laboratory. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a short-term covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab fabricated veneers are typically made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is generally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and stunning veneers.
