The Topic For Today Will Be:
Tooth Whitening
Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of a lot of patients, there are a number of ways to lighten teeth. The most popular method is utilizing a home tooth whitening system that will lighten teeth significantly. Since tooth bleaching just works on natural tooth enamel, it is essential to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth.
Most dentists use multiple techniques: custom made tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office lightening.
The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the lab makes into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole process takes about a week of everyday use. 3 different strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the greater the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is suggested for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take a number of months of use to see considerable color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a really fast and hassle-free bleaching process. The appointment is roughly one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our patients enjoy this treatment due to the fact that it is so easy and fast!
Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays ought to be used every couple of months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
