Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of a lot of clients, there are numerous ways to bleach teeth. The most popular technique is using a home tooth whitening system that will lighten teeth dramatically. Since tooth lightening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is very important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth.
Most dentists use a number of techniques: custom made tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.
The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the lab fabricates into customized vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole procedure takes about a week of everyday use. 3 various strengths of gel might be used, however, the greater the strength, the greater the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is advised for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take a number of months of use to see considerable color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a extremely quick and hassle-free whitening procedure. The visit is roughly one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our clients like this treatment since it is so simple and fast!
Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays must be used every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation throughout tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
