Today Were Discussing:

Tooth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of many patients, there are multiple ways to whiten teeth. The most popular method is utilizing a home tooth bleaching system that will whiten teeth dramatically. Because tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is essential to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.

Most dentists utilize a number of techniques: customizeded tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.

The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the lab fabricates into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole procedure takes about a week of everyday use. 3 various strengths of gel might be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray technique is advised for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take a number of months of use to see substantial color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a really quick and hassle-free whitening process. The visit is roughly one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients like this treatment since it is so easy and fast!

Tooth bleaching is not permanent. A touch-up might be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays should be used every few months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.

  • Florousis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
