Today's Discussion Will Be About:

Composite Dental Bonding

Bonding is a treatment where we use a tooth-colored composite material to a tooth, shape it, allow it to solidify, and polish it. It can be utilized in specific situations where a tooth has been damaged or become stained. These are generally minor repairs, ones that can be resolved through this relatively inexpensive means rather than through a more pricey dental procedure.

How It Works:
Bonding includes adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to fix damage done to the tooth by decay, to change the positioning of the tooth, close spaces in between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes. First the surface area of the tooth is roughened in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface area, and a primer/bond agent is applied so the material sticks to the surface area. Then the material itself is positioned on the tooth and hardened with intense light. The composite resin material is shaped and polished to get a shiny finish as a last step.
