Teeth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a stunning and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like most dental restorations, veneers may at some point need replacement; however, they are still very resilient and will last years, providing you a long lasting, beautiful smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is positioned over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are typically only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or grinning. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct method usually involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is normally referred to as bonding.
The indirect method normally involves 2 visits because the veneers will be produced at a dental lab. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a short-term covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory made veneers are generally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is generally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your new and lovely veneers.
