Because having whiter teeth has now become the top aesthetic concern of most patients, there are multiple methods to bleach teeth. The most popular technique is using a home tooth lightening system that will lighten teeth dramatically. Because tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth.
Most dentists use multiple approaches: custom made tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.
The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory fabricates into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of daily use. Three various strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the greater the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is advised for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take numerous months of use to see considerable color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a very quick and practical lightening procedure. The visit is roughly one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our clients like this treatment since it is so simple and fast!
Tooth bleaching is not permanent. A touch-up might be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays ought to be utilized every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
