What Are Same Day Dental Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new innovation that a dental professional can economically bring back damaged teeth in a single visit using a top quality ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling machine in one instrument. The dental practitioner uses a special camera to take an accurate picture of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is downloaded and shown on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD technology to create the restoration. Then CAM takes over and instantly develops the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dental practitioner bonds the brand-new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The entire process takes about one hour.

What Does This Technology Mean For A Patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer have to create temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the traditional second appointment has actually been removed. This brand-new innovation has over a decade of medical research and documentation to support it. The restorations have been proven accurate, safe and effective.

Today's Subject Is:

Teeth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the top aesthetic concern of most clients, there are numerous ways to lighten teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will lighten teeth dramatically. Since tooth whitening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the newly bleached teeth.

Most dentists use a number of methods: customizeded tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office lightening.

The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory makes into customized vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of day-to-day use. 3 various strengths of gel might be used, however, the greater the strength, the higher the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is recommended for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take a number of months of use to see substantial color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a really fast and convenient whitening procedure. The visit is roughly one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients love this treatment because it is so easy and fast!

Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays must be utilized every few months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.

  • Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
