Crowns are synthetic caps, usually made of a material like porcelain, placed on the top of a tooth.

Crowns are generally used to fix a tooth's function and look following a restorative procedure such as a root canal. When degeneration in a tooth has ended up being so advanced that huge portions of the tooth has to be taken out, crowns are frequently used to fix the tooth.

Crowns are also used to prevent a split tooth from becoming worse, attach bridges, cover implants, or an existing filling is in jeopardy of becoming loose or dislocated. Crowns also serve as an aesthetic use, and are applied when a discolored or stained tooth needs to be restored to its natural appearance.

Treatments

A tooth must typically be decreased in size to accommodate a crown. A cast is made of the existing tooth and an impression is made. The impression is sent out to a special laboratory, which manufactures a custom-made crown. In some cases, a short-term crown is applied till the long-term crown is ready. Long-term crowns are sealed in place.

Crowns are often mistaken as veneers, however they are quite different. Veneers are usually applied just to relatively little areas.

Taking care of Your Crowns

With correct care, a good quality crown could last up to 8 years or longer. It is essential to floss in the area of the crown to prevent excess plaque or collection of particles around the restoration.

Certain behaviors such as jaw clenching or bruxism (teeth grinding) significantly shorten the life of a crown. Moreover, consuming brittle foods, ice or hard candy can compromise the adhesion of the crown, or perhaps damage the crown.

The Conversation For Today Will Be:

Tooth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of the majority of clients, there are multiple methods to whiten teeth. The most popular technique is using a home tooth whitening system that will whiten teeth significantly. Since tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the recently bleached teeth.

Most dentists utilize multiple methods: custom made tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.

The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the lab makes into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of daily use. 3 different strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the greater the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray technique is suggested for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take multiple months of use to see considerable color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a really fast and hassle-free bleaching procedure. The visit is roughly one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients enjoy this treatment because it is so simple and quick!

Tooth bleaching is not permanent. A touch-up might be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays must be utilized every couple of months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.

  • Florousis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
