Why Pick Same Day Crowns?

It is very important for a person to have a strong and healthy set of teeth. However, there are some cases where dental cavity formation is unavoidable. It is typically caused by the individual's diet, habits and hygiene. Cavities that are not fixed early might cause extensive damage to the tooth's enamel which may require a dental crown to restore its natural appearance and function.

A dental crown is a cap shaped like a tooth which is used to cover the tooth that has gone through substantial damage caused by dental cavities. Getting it normally requires 2 dental appointments. During the very first visit, your broken tooth is cleaned and the decayed part is removed. The dental practitioner will then get the impression of your tooth that required the crown and will send it to a dental laboratory where standard dental crowns were made. It could be made from a metal, ceramic or porcelain material. Only throughout the 2nd appointment, your custom-fitted dental crown is cemented to your affected tooth.

With the advancement in dental innovation, the procedure of getting and wearing a dental crown has been made readily offered. Dental practitioners use the new technology in making inlays/onlays, crowns and veneers. After your broken tooth is prepared, they will use an intraoral camera that will take the picture of your broken tooth and have it uploaded to a computer. It will use a computer-aided design in taking the digital impression of your teeth and the impression is transmitted to the computer-aided manufacturing machine which will mill a color-matched ceramic block to your same day crowns. Picking a same day crown over a traditional dental crown has its advantages and downsides.

Today's Discussion Will Be About:

Dental Bonding (Composite)

Bonding is a treatment where we use a tooth-colored composite product to a tooth, shape it, allow it to harden, and polish it. It can be used in specific scenarios where a tooth has actually been damaged or become stained. These are generally small repairs, ones that can be resolved through this reasonably inexpensive ways rather than through a more costly dental treatment.

How It Works:
Bonding involves adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to repair damage done to the tooth by decay, to change the positioning of the tooth, close spaces between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes. First the surface area of the tooth is roughened in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface area, and a primer/bond agent is used so the material sticks to the surface area. Then the material itself is positioned on the tooth and solidified with intense light. The composite resin material is formed and polished to get a shiny finish as a last step.
