What Are Same Day Dental Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new innovation that a dental professional can economically restore damaged teeth in a single visit using a premium ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling device in one instrument. The dentist uses a unique camera to take an precise picture of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD innovation to create the restoration. Then CAM takes over and instantly produces the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The whole process takes about one hour.

What Does This Technology Mean For A Client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer have to produce temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the traditional 2nd visit has been removed. This brand-new innovation has more than a decade of medical research and documentation to support it. The restorations have been proven accurate, safe and reliable.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance and is an excellent way to replace missing teeth.

There are numerous types of bridges. We will talk about the very best options for your specific case. The "traditional bridge" is the most popular type and is usually made from porcelain fused to metal. These fixed bridges are most popular since they resemble your natural teeth. This kind of bridge includes two crowns that go over 2 anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are connected on either side of the artificial teeth (pontics), filling the gap developed by multiple missing teeth.

Dental bridges are highly durable and will last multiple years with proper home care; however, they might have to be replaced or re-cemented due to regular wear.

A Couple Reasons For Considering A Fixed Bridge:

  • Restore chewing and speaking capability.

  • Maintain facial shape.

  • Fill area of missing teeth.

  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position.

  • Upgrade from a detachable partial denture to a permanent dental appliance.

  • Restore your smile.

What does getting a Fixed Bridge include?

Getting a bridge normally requires 2 or more visits. While the teeth are numb, the two anchoring teeth are prepared by removing a part of enamel to enable a crown. Next, a extremely precise impression (mold) is made which will be sent out to a dental lab where the bridge will be produced. In addition, a temporary bridge will be made and used for multiple weeks up until your next appointment.

At the 2nd visit, your permanent bridge will be thoroughly checked, adjusted, and cemented to attain a proper fit and comfortable bite.

You will receive care instructions at the conclusion of your treatment. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your brand-new permanent bridge.

Why Consider Dental Bridges?

This is an option for filling the area created by a missing tooth. It is formed to look like the missing tooth, and it takes its place in the mouth. The sides of a bridge uses the two surrounding teeth for assistance, hence the name. A bridge replaces the missing tooth, both functionally and cosmetically. Bridge work is as much an art as it is an exact science. The materials used may be gold alloys, porcelain bonded to metal alloy, or all ceramic material. The option of material depends upon requirements for strength, wear, and/or esthetics.

It is important that a missing tooth be replaced as quickly as possible for numerous reasons. If not treated the teeth surrounding the space begin to move inward, developing a whole chain reaction of bad things. Teeth use their neighbors for support, and, with one missing, they start to "fall." As this gets worse the bite changes in reaction to the pressure. This can eventually lead to problems with the whole jaw, e.g. TMJ. The surrounding teeth degrade and it is just a matter of time before they, too, are lost. Gum disease ends up being a severe problem, with the difficulty of treatment increasing as the neglect continues.
