What Are Same Day Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new innovation that a dentist can financially restore damaged teeth in a single consultation using a high-quality ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling device in one instrument. The dental practitioner uses a unique camera to take an accurate image of the broken tooth. This optical impression is downloaded and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD innovation to develop the restoration. Then CAM takes over and immediately develops the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the brand-new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The entire process takes about one hour.

Exactly What Does This Technology Mean For A Patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer have to create temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the standard 2nd visit has been eliminated. This new innovation has more than a decade of scientific research and documentation to support it. The restorations have actually been proven precise, safe and efficient.

Today's Discussion Will Be About:

Tooth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of the majority of clients, there are numerous methods to whiten teeth. The most popular method is utilizing a home tooth bleaching system that will lighten teeth considerably. Because tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth.

Most dentists utilize multiple methods: custom made tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.

The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the lab makes into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of daily use. Three various strengths of gel might be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the greater the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is suggested for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take numerous months of use to see considerable color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a really quick and hassle-free whitening process. The visit is around one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our patients like this treatment since it is so simple and quick!

Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up might be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays should be used every couple of months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.

  • Florousis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
