Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of many clients, there are a number of ways to bleach teeth. The most popular technique is utilizing a home tooth lightening system that will lighten teeth considerably. Because tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is essential to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the recently bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize multiple methods: custom made tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.
The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory produces into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of day-to-day use. 3 different strengths of gel might be utilized, however, the greater the strength, the greater the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray technique is advised for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take a number of months of use to see significant color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a very quick and convenient lightening process. The visit is roughly one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients like this treatment due to the fact that it is so simple and quick!
Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up might be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays should be used every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
