Exactly What Is A Dental Crown?

A crown is a cap made to cover a tooth with the function of restoring it to its natural shapes and size or to improve its look. To prepare for the crown, dentists drill to get rid of the decayed section and also form the tooth to get ready for the crown for that part which lies around and above the gum line.

Same Day Crowns Restorations

CEREC stands for CERamic REConstruction and is a tool in our office that can take exact digital imagery of locations requiring restoration and produce the suitable restoration on the spot.

Today's Conversation Has To Do With:

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance and is an exceptional method to replace missing teeth.

There are multiple types of bridges. We will discuss the very best options for your particular case. The "traditional bridge" is the most popular type and is normally made from porcelain fused to metal. These fixed bridges are most popular due to the fact that they resemble your natural teeth. This type of bridge includes two crowns that go over 2 anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached on either side of the synthetic teeth (pontics), filling the space developed by multiple missing teeth.

Dental bridges are extremely durable and will last many years with appropriate home care; however, they may have to be replaced or re-cemented due to normal wear.

Reasons For Considering A Fixed Bridge:

  • Restore chewing and speaking capability.

  • Maintain facial shape.

  • Fill space of missing teeth.

  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position.

  • Upgrade from a removable partial denture to a permanent dental appliance.

  • Restore your smile.

What does getting a Fixed Bridge include?

Getting a bridge normally requires two or more visits. While the teeth are numb, the two anchoring teeth are prepared by eliminating a part of enamel to enable a crown. Next, a highly precise impression (mold) is made which will be sent to a dental lab where the bridge will be produced. In addition, a short-term bridge will be made and worn for multiple weeks up until your next visit.

At the second visit, your permanent bridge will be thoroughly inspected, adjusted, and cemented to attain a correct fit and comfy bite.

You will receive care directions at the conclusion of your treatment. Appropriate brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will aid in the life of your new permanent bridge.

Why Consider Dental Bridges?

This is an option for filling the area developed by a missing tooth. It is formed to resemble the missing tooth, and it takes its place in the mouth. The sides of a bridge uses the two surrounding teeth for assistance, hence the name. A bridge replaces the missing tooth, both functionally and cosmetically. Bridge work is as much an art as it is an exact science. The materials used might be gold alloys, porcelain bonded to metal alloy, or all ceramic material. The choice of material depends on requirements for strength, wear, and/or esthetics.

It is important that a missing tooth be replaced as quickly as possible for a number of reasons. If not treated the teeth surrounding the space start to move inward, producing an entire chain reaction of bad things. Teeth use their neighbors for support, and, with one missing, they start to "fall." As this gets worse the bite changes in reaction to the pressure. This can eventually lead to issues with the entire jaw, e.g. TMJ. The surrounding teeth weaken and it is just a matter of time before they, too, are lost. Gum disease ends up being a serious issue, with the difficulty of treatment enhancing as the neglect continues.
